DISTORTING REFLECTIONS
Although the process for growing and making fibers has improved with technology, this is still one of the most labor intensive work environments where primarily women and children are exploited. This exhibit is meant to allow the viewer into the world of the people making their clothes. As passersby take a seat, the mirrors will show a distorted reflection of themselves blended with the machine.
As the designer and fabricator of the mirrors, I wanted to ensure they were not only perpendicular to the ground, but also able to withstand winds while hiding the structure from their front profiles. Throughout the duration of the installation the freestanding mirrors stood without fail, allowing zero maintenance.
